BOOST FOR ISLAND TOURISM MARKETING
New Web Portal linked with E-Brochure
generates positive results
Launched on 01 May 2009,
the new Isle of Cumbrae tourism web portal has received an impressive 93,000page views in its first month of operation. A companion e-brochure launched on 06 June, and aimed at driving additional traffic to the site is
already generating a considerable response from around the world.
Owned by the
Isle of Cumbrae Tourism Association, the site at www.millport.org has been completely redeveloped with
fresh content, new images and a professional style. Using the latest CMS
(content management system) technology, the site includes an online calendar of
events, visually interesting tourism content, practical advice for potential
visitors, and it’s virtual ‘send a postcard from Millport’ service has proved
very popular with online visitors.
The
companion digital e-brochure entitled “Millport Magic” provides a marketing
tool which is highly visual, allowing the beauty of the Island to be displayed
in a level of detail which is not possible through a normal web site. Dr Jim Bryson, the island’s GP and member of
the tourism committee remarked “We ran out of superlatives when we saw the
quality of the e-brochure”.
“With its detailed tracking capability it is
possible to tell that, in its first twelve days, the e-brochure had already been
read in countries including England, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, UAE, USA,
Canad, New Zealand and Australia. Over 6,000 pages have been read so far and the concept is very eco-friendly and offers a low cost and
quantifiable route to tourism marketing” says Charles Kelly, the developer of
both the web portal and the e-brochure.
Bill Steel, Chairman
of the Island’s Tourism Committee: “We were looking for a route to move the
promotion of the Island into the top league and this combination of a very
professional web site and a visually striking
e-brochure offers this. The results so far have well exceeded our expectations
and the responses have been extremely positive. We plan to add web cams to feed
live pictures of the Island and are looking positively at other marketing
related developments.” As a business owner on the Island Bill added “only today
we had a couple of visitors who had viewed the e-brochure online at their hotel
on the mainland and were so impressed that they decided to make a visit - and
they weren’t disappointed. There can be no better ‘proof of concept’.”
